Located: Curtin Place, Little Hunter and Hamilton Streets

Firstdraft Gallery’s ‘Downtown’ reflects the diversity of practice among Sydney’s emerging artists, offering many of them a chance to participate in this exciting and rare opportunity, while simultaneously being sensitive to the site’s existing community, uses and history.

Offering the local community (city workers, small business owners, commuters, wanderers, residents and tourists) a number of events and temporary physical interventions that are accessible to them, the Firstdraft artists ‘Downtown’ project recognise the relationship of these groups to these neglected spaces and have created a vibrant and exciting zone of activity in the heart of the City.

Rather then colonising the spaces, the artists aim to engage with the laneways as existing living spaces, proposing small interventions that change the way users and visitors perceive these spaces and their future potential within the city.
