Associated Events
City of Sydney is seeking applications from organisations and individuals
interested to participate in Art & About.
Now in its eighth year and produced by City of Sydney, Art & About is
Sydney's biggest public arts festival, presented during October each year.
Through profiling works by diverse contemporary artists (emerging, mid career
and established) from Australia and overseas, Art & About aims to transform
the City's streets, public spaces and venues through a series of free, highly
accessible, visible and engaging art exhibitions, installations, performances and
events throughout the streets, public spaces and venues of City of Sydney.
AMP Capital Investors is the Major sponsor of Art & About and has been since
the Event's inception in 2002.
Art & About 2009 will be a core event of the Events NSW Master Events Calendar and
marketing campaign, as part of the "Crave" umbrella.
The dates for Art & About 2009 are 1 to 25 October.

Selection Criteria
Preference will be given to projects based on the following selection
criteria:
- Projects developed especially for Art & About, as a showcase of Sydney
artistic diversity, art and culture in public spaces.
- Enhance streetscapes, shopfronts and/or public spaces.
- Enhance a precinct/s within the City of Sydney Local Government Area.
- Appeal to a broad audience, highly accessible and free to the public.
- Demonstrate excellence in the artform, artistic merit and conceptual integrity.
- Demonstrate an innovative approach.
- Involve the Community in research, development and presentation phases.
- Engage and evoke response from the audience and community.
- Demonstrated experience on similar projects.
- Feasibility to deliver the project.

Please note that submission of an Expression of Interest Form does not guarantee
inclusion within the Art & About program. Successful applicants will be
notified in writing on 15 July 2009.

External Event Terms and Conditions
IT IS A CONDITION OF ENTRY INTO ART & ABOUT THAT ALL TERMS & CONDITIONS
ARE ACCEPTED WITHOUT RESERVATION.
Inclusion of Associated Events within Art & About is by INVITATION ONLY.
Submission of the Associated Event Expression of Interest Form and any associated
materials does not constitute acceptance of inclusion in Art & About. A
letter advising of the outcome of the Expression of Interest will be mailed on or
before 15 July 2009.
All Associated Events must meet with the Associated Event Terms and Conditions
(set out below). The decision of which Associated Events will be included in the
Festival remains at the sole discretion of the City of Sydney. All decisions are
final and no correspondence will be entered into.
City of Sydney's support does not include funding, venue hire, marketing,
ticketing or collateral design for Associated Events. The City of Sydney promotes
Associated Events through a listing in the Art & About program booklet and
listing on the website. Each Associated Event participant should be able to carry out
its own funding, scheduling and promotion for the particular event.
Associated Events must:
- Take place entirely during the Art & About dates of 1 October to 25 October
2009; or
- Commence during the Art & About period (1 - 25 October 2009); or
- Have the majority of the Event take place during the official the period 1 - 25
October 2009.
- Associated Events must be of a high standard, meet the programming requirements
for Art & Abut and not duplicate existing events for inclusion in Art &
About. The Organisers reserve the right to refuse participation if the
Associated Event does not meet the programming standards, does not fit with the
programming objectives or is not sufficiently original and unique.
- The decision of which Associated Events will be included in Art & About
remains at the sole discretion of the Organisers and no correspondence will be
entered into.
- Associated Events may not be included if they are contrary to City of Sydney
policies and values or if the Organisers are involved in any legal dispute with
City of Sydney.
- Associated Events will not be included if they promote or include illegal
activities.
- Associated Event organisers may undertake their own publicity to promote their
event, provided that the promotional materials, publicity, media releases and
signage acknowledge City of Sydney and Art & About. All collateral designed by
External Event organisers must incorporate the City of Sydney and Art &
About logo. All materials must be approved by the City before being printed.
Associated Event Organisers must not make any statement to the media about Art
& About. Statements to the media about Art & About may only be made by
the Lord Mayor or individuals approved by the City of Sydney.
- Art & About promotional materials must be distributed at External Event
venues and at the External Event organiser's offices or outlets.
Any launches or official functions associated with the Associated Event must:
- Invite the Lord Mayor or a designated representative to take part in the
official proceedings;
- accept a list of invitees associated with City of Sydney and the Festival to be
invited to the function; and
- Provide the City of Sydney with a list of RSVPs to the function for the Lord
Mayor's/Council Representative's speech.
- Associated event organisers understand that they participate in the Festival at
their own risk. Participants take full responsibility for any injuries or
damages involving them that may occur during the Festival. Participants release the
City of Sydney and all other agents involved, from any claims, rights of action or
cause of action.
- Associated Event organisers must adhere to the format and dates agreed to.
Associated Event organisers must notify City of Sydney of any changes to the
Associated Event details, including date, time or location, as soon as possible.
- Associated Event organisers must comply with all relevant laws, regulations and
guidelines that are applicable to the events including Occupational Health &
Safety legislation.
- City of Sydney organisers accept no responsibility for any damage or injury to
Associated Event personnel, equipment or property before, during or after the
Festival.
- Associated Event organisers are responsible for the safety of artists,
performers, crew, suppliers, other agents involved and members of the public at their
events, and for the provision of $10 million public liability insurance coverage
for their events. A copy of your Public Liability Insurance Certificate of Currency for $10
million with "The Council of the City of Sydney" noted for its respective rights and
interests must be supplied as part of your response to this Expression of
Interest.
- Associated Event Organisers may be required to produce a site specific Risk
Management Plan for the Associated Event and if deemed necessary by City of Sydney
staff, with a copy of the Plan to be provided to City of Sydney for approval at
least 2 weeks prior to the event.
Associated Event Organisers who participate in Art & About must agree to
participate on the following conditions:
- You are responsible for your own personal security and property;
- You are responsible for any injury or damage to person or property that occurs
during Art & About which arises from your own fault, act or omission; and
- You release City of Sydney and any other agents involved, from any claims,
actions or losses arising from your own fault, act or omission during your
participation in Art & About.
