| A letter from Karuah: the centrality of Aboriginal family history to understandings of Australian colonial history
Family histories provide a new focus of gender and race relations to the existing history of Port Stephens and the Manning. Approaching the history of a region from an Indigenous knowledges point of view, that places Aboriginal cultural concerns to the forefront, has ramifications for our understanding of Australian history. The history of Aboriginal families in a region challenges the accepted notions of Aboriginal-colonial relations that have developed in Australian scholarship. These insights have ramifications for the broader history of Australia. Vicki Grieves will illustrate her talk with examples of family histories from Worimi.
