Jonathon Bottrell

Jonathon Bottrell, curator of Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Cooperative, talks about the history and philosophy of the coop.

Jonathon Bottrell:

"From my understanding of Boomalli we were set up as an organisation 13 years ago to provide a stage or a platform for urban Aboriginal artists to display their work. It was sort of in response to the fact that most urban Aboriginal artists weren't getting a chance to show their work by mainstream galleries and the notion of Aboriginal art was pretty much dots from the Centre or cross-hatching from up North. And our members sort of responded to that by forming the organisation and giving themselves an opportunity to show work and to sort of educate the art audience and in turn the general public about on Aboriginal art is and where Aboriginal people live and what Aboriginal people do."
