Sustaining economic growth
Our economic development strategy recognises across all industry sectors there are common economic themes that are broad and overarching, which include entrepreneurs and small business, environmental sustainability and knowledge and innovation. The themes presented in this section are a specific focus for the City.
The City is aiming to increase enterprise and employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our Eora journey program, which is about building the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and businesses across the local area.
We continue to support small businesses in the local area with a range of targeted programs and initiatives. These include providing access to resources, information and expertise to small businesses in order to develop their skills and capacity.
As a global city, Sydney already has strong economic, cultural and social connections across Asia, as well as other parts of the world.
The City is working on expanding and strengthening those connections to deliver greater benefits to the community and the economy in general.
New businesses are often innovative and generate new ideas, products, services and ways of doing things, which creates employment opportunities and economic wealth.
A main area of focus for the City is around supporting entrepreneurs in technology startup businesses.
