Business leaders participate in 2017 accelerator

10 business leaders from across the country are participating in the nation's fifth accelerator program exclusively for women entrepreneurs.

SBE Australia (Springboard Enterprises) is a global not-for-profit organisation where entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts meet to build great women-led businesses.

The accelerator program is designed to prepare women-led companies for growth and connect them to high-value networks of investors and expertise in Australia and globally. Companies that are selected to take part must:

  • have a woman in a senior position with a significant equity stake
  • demonstrate a qualified and profitable market opportunity
  • have a track record of milestone achievement
  • a credible management team or ability to attract one
  • be based in or have significant operations in Australia.

Participants in this year’s program include:

  • Helen Awali – Bookmarc
  • Silvia Pfeiffer – Coviu Global Pty Ltd
  • Renece Brewster – Data Creative
  • Katherine Pace – Elanation
  • Siobhan Lancaster – Instatruck
  • Kenny Aiken – Life Cell Marine Safety
  • Kristy Chong – Modibodi
  • Rachel Kidwell – TCPinpoint
  • Sujata Karandikar – Unscrabble
  • Noga Edelstein – UrbanYou.

Since launching in 2013, 36 women have participated in the Springboard program in Australia, with 80% going on to raise external funding for their companies. A high proportion are from Sydney, including graphic design website Canva and energy management software company Switch Automation. Of these companies, 60–70% have expanded internationally and one is set to list on the ASX.

The City has supported SBE Australia since then as part of our economic development strategy and tech startups action plan to encourage women entrepreneurs, help strengthen the Sydney economy and support business.

In mid 2017 SBE Australia launched its E3 program: empower, evolve, escalate. The program is designed specifically for female entrepreneurs, ready and waiting to take the next leap towards growth. Visit the E3 program page to find out more about this opportunity.
