Macleay Street and Woolloomooloo
Kings Cross, Potts Point, Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo and Rushcutters Bay
Australia's most densely populated district, the area around Kings Cross, Potts Point and Elizabeth Bay is famous for its nightlife and dining with many new upmarket bars and restaurants opening in recent years.
Ruschutters Bay and Elizabeth Bay are quieter areas with parks and waterfront promenades, where you will find smaller cafés, restaurants and bars catering to the village's eclectic resident mix.
While hospitality provides the most business opportunities, tourism is also an important part of the local economy with around one-third of the City's backpacker accommodation found in the area. Kings Cross also provides about 10% of the City's hotel rooms.
Areas of employment include William Street's multi-storey buildings and the Royal Australian Navy's Garden Island facility.
The once working class areas of Woolloomooloo remains home to a large number of public housing tenants who have been joined by newer residents in upmarket developments such as the Finger Wharf hotel, dining and apartment complex.
