Martin Place

Every day, Martin Place attracts workers and visitors as they criss-cross the city or sit down and enjoy lunch in the sun. The bustling thoroughfare, which began as a plaza between Pitt and George Streets in the early 1970s, has been pedestrian-only all the way to Macquarie Street since 1980.

It is flanked by some architectural landmarks, including the MLC Centre and the mushroom-shaped Commercial Travellers' Association building. The original General Post Office at 1 Martin Place was re-invented to accomodate restaurants, bars, an international hotel and a health club.

Local occupants include the Reserve Bank, several other major financial institutions, luxury stores, a television network, a busy Australia Post outlet and even an underground railway station. The Cenotaph (war memorial), sculptures, fountains and seating complete this valued public space.

Hiring Martin Place means maximum exposure for your event or promotion!

The ampitheatre

Located between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets, the Martin Place amphitheatre is perfect for corporate and community events. Surrounding areas are also available for hire.

The ampitheatre features a stage that can be raised if required. The site has recently hosted film festivals, concerts, charity fundraisers and even marathons.

Capacity is huge for unrestricted events that encourage the passing crowds to stop, look and listen. We can also arrange restricted access spaces for ticketed/invitation only events.

Catering

There are no catering restrictions attached to the hiring of Martin Place. Event organisers need to follow the regulations applying to temporary food stalls if they plan to make catering available.

Audio-visual equipment

Anyone hiring Martin Place will have to supply their own audio-visual equipment.
