Christmas Decorations
26 November 2009 - 11 January 2010
7 days a week
City of Sydney's streets and public spaces will sparkle with Australian themed Christmas decorations.
Martin Place's Magnificent Tree
Martin Place
Our Martin Place Christmas tree is the centrepiece of our Christmas celebrations incorporating the iconic seven pointed stars of the Southern Cross in traditional red, green and gold. This example of true Sydney style will captivate all with hundreds of twinkling lights adorning the branches.
The 21 metre high Christmas tree will be adorned with 58,000 LED lights and 315 seven pointed stars.
The electricity used to light up the City of Sydney's Christmas decorations is matched with 100% accredited GreenPower thanks to our sponsor EnergyAustralia.
At the top of the tree is a 1.5m high sparkling Southern Cross Star to remind all that this is a truly Australian Christmas celebration.
The tree's lights are on from 6pm every evening to 2am.
More Christmas Tree locations and Nativity Scene

Kings Cross will celebrate with a new Christmas Tree, surrounded by the Living Colour Christmas flower displays in Fitzroy Gardens. The Nativity Scene provided by St Mary's Cathedral will again grace the Cathedral’s Forecourt with the Christmas Tree.
The Sydney Town Hall will feature a 7.5m tree that includes 6,500 LED lights and seven pointed stars finished in red, green and gold. There will be 80 LED colour changing baubles enclosed in gold wire and a one metre tree top star. New banner designs featuring the Major Mitchell Cockatoo, baby Crimson Rosella, Spider Flower and Native Fuchsia join the existing Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, Gumnuts and Bottlebrushes. The Christmas banners will fly throughout the City and in Redfern, Glebe, Paddington, Woolloomooloo, Erskineville, Green Square, Moore Park, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross, East Sydney, Broadway and Haymarket.
