Village Family Concerts 2008

City of Sydney invites you to celebrate the beginning of Our Christmas season on Thursday 26 November 2009 with the ever popular Martin Place Christmas Concert and Christmas on the Green. Martin Place will see the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, festive fireworks display and performances by Justine Clarke, Monica Trapaga, Koala Brothers, Melinda Schneider, Australian Girls Choir and MC Wendy Harmer. A big screen will be set up at Hyde Park North for Christmas on the Green where you can enjoy the excitement of Martin Place in a more relaxed environment as well as live performances including Bananas in Pyjamas and St Mary’s Cathedral College Choir. Both venues will feature great children's entertainers, choirs leading the carol singing and Santa visiting on his sleigh.

This year’s Our Christmas Village Concert series includes a new venue alongside Sydney Harbour at Beare Park, Elizabeth Bay. All the concerts are packed full with family activities, children’s entertainers, Christmas carols and live music for the whole family. It wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa and as always he will make a grand surprise entrance at each concert. Other Village Concerts are at Alexandria, Rosebery and Surry Hills.

New additions to Our Christmas banners include the Major Mitchell Cockatoo and baby Crimson Rosella, who'll join the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, Spider Flower, Native Fuchsia, Gumnuts and Bottlebrushes flying above the City streets. These banners decorate the city in a truly Australian summer style.

Make sure you also check out the 12 Days of Sydney Christmas projections on Sydney Town Hall every night from 26 November to 25 December, 8:30pm – 1:00am. The NSW Government will also host Macquarie Night Lights; exquisite projections illuminating Sydney’s oldest and most cherished buildings along Macquarie Street.

This year City of Sydney welcomes our new Christmas Charity Partner DoggieRescue.com. DoggieRescue.com volunteers will be at all our concerts and we hope you support them in their commitment to re-home abused and abandoned dogs in the city.
