Privacy
The City of Sydney makes some use of data that directly or indirectly identifies users. We take great care with practices that affect personal privacy.
Accountability
City of Sydney websites are subject to the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
Data Collection
Data that in some way identifies the user is gathered during interactions with the City of Sydney’s web sites in the following circumstances:
- Computer Information
It is a necessary part of visiting any web site, including the City of Sydney’s, that the user's web browser provides the machine's identity (its IP address) to the web server, so that the server can address the reply to the correct machine. In addition, the browser type and operating system are provided. - Navigation and ClickStream Data
Browsing any web site, including the City of Sydney site, generates a trail of pages visited and the time apparently spent displaying each page. - Competitions
See Competition Terms & Conditions.
Data Storage
All data described above may be stored and archived by the City of Sydney.
Purpose
Unless stated otherwise, data may be used by the City of Sydney and staff involved in website operation only for:
- Web site and system administration, including monitoring to prevent security breaches;
- customisation of the Web site to the user's needs; and
- evaluation, research and development.
Identified data can only be re-disclosed to the user if the user provides the unique request session number. Personally identified data may be disclosed to a third party only in circumstances in which such disclosure is legally authorised, such as in the investigation of a criminal offence, and in compliance with a court order.
Intended Recipient, Access and Disclosure
The intended recipient of the data is the City of Sydney. Unless otherwise stated (See competition Terms & Conditions), such information will not be divulged to any third party, except in circumstances where such disclosure is legally authorised. Identified data can only be re-disclosed to the user if the user provides the unique request session number.
