A lamp for Mary by Mikala Dwyer 2010

Mary's Place Surry Hills

In the mid 1990s, Flood Lane Surry Hills was renamed Mary's Place after a lesbian named Mary was brutally assaulted in the lane. The current project is a reflection on the community action surrounding the creation of the original artwork and its current reinstatement after the original was inadvertently removed.

Aspire by Warren Langley 2010

Under the Freeway, Ultimo
An artwork under the freeway initiated by the people of Pyrmont and Ultimo. A forest of trees rising up to support the vast freeway overhead. It references the community uprising of nearby Fig St which resulted in the preservation of local housing which was to have been demolished for the Western Distributor.

Windlines: The Scout Compass of Discovery 2011

Wireless House 2009 by Dr Nigel Helyer

Foley Park, Glebe Point Road, Glebe
This artwork by Dr Nigel Helyer celebrates the history of this small but unique building which once housed a free wireless radio in the 1930s. Nigel has sonically reactivated the building so that once again people can gather to listen to its ‘broadcasts’, and now features stories and oral histories created by the local community. The site is also a free wi-fi spot. View website
