Chinese New Year ParadeLively Culture & Arts

Our cultural strategy for Sustainable Sydney 2030 aims to reinforce creative opportunities in our City. We host and support events such as Chinese New Year, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, City Talks and Art & About. Sydney Festival’s First Night this year brought arts and culture to our streets and the City is a major supporter of Mardi Gras, the Sydney Writers’ Festival, the Sydney Film Festival and the Biennale.

It is hoped that our successful initiative towards the radical overhaul of liquor laws will encourage a diverse and vibrant night-time economy with opportunities for live music and other artistic endeavours. Our grants program provides a lifeline to artists and small community projects, and our Pine Street Arts Centre in Chippendale fosters new talent.
