Other information

Family day care operates under the same National Quality Framework as other forms of child care and parents who use the service are eligible for the Federal Government Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate.

Children can be cared for during business hours and school holidays, before and after school and, in some cases, overnight and weekends.

Family day care is suitable for babies and older children, allowing siblings to be looked after together.

  • Educators work with small groups of no more than 4 children under school age.
  • The small group environment enables strong bonds between children and carers.
  • An educator may care for 3 more children outside of school hours.

Family day care educators

Educators are trained and approved professionals who comply with the same requirements as other child care providers.

They are supported and regularly visited by their coordination unit and take part in training and workshops to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.
