Whether it's an exercise group or choir, computer class or discussion group, our Over 55s services and programs are tailored to help you keep enjoying a healthy, active and involved lifestyle, right into retirement and beyond.

For our less-active seniors, we also offer a range of support services such as meals, transport and a home library service to help you continue living comfortably and independently at home.

Our changing population

By 2018 the number of older people in the local area is expected to grow by around one-third, increasing from just under 22,000 people in 2008 to just over 29,000 people. Following a review of our services to take into account this expected growth, it was found the best approach is to move from providing centre-based to program-based services.

Our report, 'The Next Generation – Blueprint for Aged Services and Facilities 2008-2018', has 4 key goals.

  • Encourage healthy ageing by addressing the physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing of older people.
  • Provide ongoing, adequate and appropriate support services for the frail aged, people with disabilities and their carers.
  • Provide adequate and accesible transport options.
  • Build partnerships with other agencies to develop new community programs for older people.
