Catering to your needs
More than 5,000 nutritious meals are provided every month to residents who are unable to shop for, or prepare their own meals. Our Meals on Wheels service is available to:
- frail older residents
- people with disabilities and their carers
- people recovering from surgery or a chronic illness.
The service also provides lunches at the City's Over 55s Centres.
The service provides meals to suit a client's personal requirements such as special dietary needs, cultural and taste preferences.
The seasonal menu is rotated over a 4-week cycle to ensure you receive a varied and nutritious diet.
Cost and delivery
Individual meal packages start from $5.70 each. A standard meal package includes:
- a main meal
- slice of bread
- butter portion
- 110ml fruit juice.
The meals are delivered Monday to Friday by our staff and volunteers. The service does not operate on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays but meals for these days can be provided in advance.
Meal packages are delivered chilled so you can heat and serve your meal at a time that suits you. If you don't have a microwave or oven to reheat your meal, hot meal packages can be arranged instead. Bulk frozen meals are also available on request.
You can refer yourself or be referred by your doctor, friend of family member. Simply telephone our office on 02 8512 4230. After we receive your referral a City community worker will visit to assess your needs, which may include other home support services, and your dietary preferences. They will also explain how the service works and what it will cost you.
