The accommodation grants program seeks to further the City of Sydney's aims within Sustainable Sydney 2030, and its social policy and social plan 2006-2010. The social plan states that the City will:
- promote positive interactions and understanding between communities
- provide a network of affordable and accessible community facilities across the City
- ensure that access and equity needs are identified and addressed for all people in the City.
This program supports community groups, organisations and services that encourage community development, enhance services and programs provided for the community, and address priority needs in the local area.
Under the program, the City leases community facilities (buildings and spaces) to non-profit community-based organisations and groups at no charge or at reduced rates (below market rental).
The City also values the contributions of community groups and organisations, and the services and programs they provide that contribute to the social and economic health of the city. Appropriately, accommodation grants are distributed equitably across the City, including in high rent areas such as the city centre and prominent retail and service precincts, together with fringe areas.
General policy eligibility and exclusions apply.
