History publication sponsorships

Recording history

As Australia’s oldest city, the history of Sydney is diverse, rich and intriguing. Much of this history has been unrecorded and there is much still to discover and interpret. The History Publication Sponsorship Program helps with the costs of publications that are considered relevant to the ongoing research into and recording of the City of Sydney's history.

Sponsorships of up to $15,000 are available.

The aim of the program is to complement the work of the City's historians by supporting the publication of historical research that is relevant to the local area. This program does not provide funding for historical research and does not support publications that are primarily reports, photographic monographs, archival recordings or contemporary snapshots of city life. The work must be a piece of history.

This Program will respond on an ad hoc basis to requests from publishers and historians. All applicants must speak to the City's historian before applying in writing to the chief executive officer.

General policy eligibility and exclusions apply.

How to apply

All applications are assessed against the grant criteria and in accordance with the City's grants and sponsorships policy (download below).
