Community partnerships
The Matching Grants Program provides a mechanism for community engagement, skills development, capacity building, and shared funding arrangements for the delivery of local community-based projects. The program primarily works with community groups to partner with the City to support events, services, and projects in their local neighbourhoods.
Applications may be submitted all year and will be required to demonstrate how they will meet a specific community project or objective in the City. Some of the projects or initiatives may include:
- cultural projects
- community building initiatives
- cycling related projects
- tree planting and planter box activation
- community gardens
- public art projects
- multicultural programs
- neighbourhood events and activities.
The program is designed to support projects that involve genuine community participation. By ‘matching’ what the community contributes to the project the City is building a sense of community and strengthening partnerships by supporting community identified projects as people work together on the project.
General policy eligibility and exclusions apply.
Tree planting matching grants
The City wants to help make the local area a leafier and healthier place for residents and visitors.
If you have a perfect spot to plant a tree but just need a helping hand, you can add to the urban forest thanks to the tree planting matching grants. Matching grants must be allocated to 2 or more people from different households, so round up your neighbours and help green the local area.
Visit the tree planting grants page for more information.
How to apply
All applications are assessed against the grant criteria and in accordance with the City's grants and sponsorships policy (download below).
To apply please contact the City’s grants team on 02 9265 9333 to discuss your application. We are very happy to provide advice and support to all grants applicants but we cannot proof read draft applications. The application form can be downloaded below.
You must clearly answer all questions in the application form and present a concise and accurate budget.
