Driving safely

All drivers have a responsibility to drive safely in the city. Heavy traffic, more pedestrians and cyclists in central Sydney mean lower speeds are required.

Speed is a factor in 40% of road deaths in NSW. The City of Sydney supports a 40 km/h speed limit in areas where there are high levels of pedestrians.

Travelling slower means safer driving. It's easier to avoid an accident and less distance is needed to stop your vehicle.

Every week in Australia, a child (often a toddler) is run over in the driveway of their home. You can help raise awareness about driveway safety

If you're supervising a learner driver we offer free workshops that provide practical advice. Bookings are essential.
