Councillor Linda Scott

Before moving to Sydney to attend university, Linda grew up in Melbourne and Canberra, and spent time as an exchange student in the United States of America. She holds a degree in Psychology from UNSW, and is a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors. Linda works at The University of Sydney, is a Director and Senior Executive Group member of Local Government NSW, and a regular guest on Sky News Australia.

Linda was first elected to the City of Sydney Council in 2012 following Labor's historic first community preselection, involving a ballot of over 4,000 inner-city residents to select Labor’s Mayoral candidate. She was successfully re-elected in 2016.

Linda is currently the Deputy Chair of the City of Sydney Council’s Healthy Communities Sub-Committee, alternative Chair of the Local Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming Committee, and an alternate delegate to the Central Sydney Planning Committee.

Linda is also Deputy Chair of Labor's Sustainable Communities Committee – NSW Labor’s policy committee responsible for transport, the environment and energy, planning, affordable and public housing, local government, better regulation and innovation, and the arts.  In the past she has served in many community and political leadership roles, including as Chair of the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, member of UNSW University Council, Labor Policy Forum and Convener of Labor for Refugees. At the City of Sydney, Linda has previously served as the Deputy Chair of the Community Sub-Committee, a member of the Floodplain Management Committee and delegate to the Sydney Coastal Councils Group.

Linda is committed to ensuring Council invests in community services and infrastructure to improve the lives of all the City's communities. She is particularly interested in the provision of high quality public open spaces and sporting fields, child care, public and affordable housing, taking action on climate change, the arts, and preserving the City's heritage and tradition of design excellence.

Linda lives with her husband, Daniel, and two young children in inner-city Newtown. She enjoys bushwalking, swimming and discovering new Australian music.
