Open talking shop

Aimed at retailers large and small from Sydney's CBD and villages, our Talking Shop series is designed to open a conversation about the issues that matter to businesses. Covering new initiatives, changes occurring within the City and upcoming opportunities, these seminars will provide insights to help businesses grow and evolve to meet the marketplace's changing demands.

Our second seminar for 2011 has a special focus on Christmas and will provide valuable intelligence to help Sydney businesses large and small understand how to best benefit from our dynamic and inspiring Christmas program of events and activities, aimed at promoting Sydney as a world-class retail destination.

The City of Sydney is hosting a series of free talks with large and small retailers about issues that matter to businesses in Sydney's centre and villages. The Talking Shop series will cover new City initiatives, changes and upcoming opportunities, giving you insights to help your business grow and evolve to meet the market's changing demands.

Transport seminar

The City of Sydney hosted two free transport forums featuring keynote speaker Professor Jaun Pablo Bocarejo from the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. Professor Bocarejo shared his experiences on transport and land use and behaviour change in Bogota, Colombia.

Professor Juan Pablo Bocarejo


Juan Pablo Bocarejo is a Professor at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia in the transportation field and the director of the Research Centre on Urban and Regional Sustainability (SUR). SUR develops projects in road safety, transport economics, policy, transport and traffic modelling, equity issues related to mobility, environmental impacts as well as land use and mobility.

Retail loss prevention & safety seminar for small business

5 April 2011

The City of Sydney hosted a free seminar to educate retailers about how to design out shoplifting; the rights of retailers; and procedures to manage and support staff. Keynote speaker Professor Lorraine Gamman, Professor in Design at the School of Graphic and Industrial Design, and Director of the Design Out Crime Centre at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design (University of the Arts, London) shared tips and information on new anti-shoplifting designs, particularly linked to the theft of products such as cosmetics, alcohol, women's wear, designer goods and small electronic items.

Professor Lorraine Gamman


Professor Lorraine Gamman is Professor of Design in the School of Graphic and Industrial Design and the Director of the practice-led Design Against Crime Research Centre at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (University of the Arts, London). Professor Gamman has taught at the University of the Arts, London for over 15 years and founded the Design Against Crime Research Centre in 1999.
