Organisers of Sydney’s newest celebration, Smart Light Sydney, have called upon artists from around Australia and the region to respond to an Expression of Interest (EOI) to deliver creative and smart light and sound installations for this exciting event to be held in May and June this year.

Smart Light Sydney, taking place 26 May – 14 June 2009, forms a major component of the newly designated Vivid Sydney event announced by Events NSW to deliver a focus on light and sound during winter in Sydney. Vivid Sydney will transform the city into a unique living canvas of music and light with the Opera House, the Rocks and Circular Quay as its focus.

Events NSW expect Vivid Sydney to become an annual hub for creative industries throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Smart Light Sydney will deliver the free public celebration through a Light Walk, an innovative outdoor display of light art in the CBD foreshore precinct.

Artists are invited to submit their EOI to contribute installations to the Smart Light Sydney Light Walk, which includes major public venues such as the Sydney Observatory, Museum of Contemporary Art and Customs House.

Submissions should respond to the festival’s creative theme of City and Memories, promote reductions in electricity consumption and light pollution, demonstrate new technologies and consider the City of Sydney’s vision for a green, global and connected city.

“We’re looking for artists who are using digital technologies to provide creative solutions in urban design and light, as well as for installations which are stimulating and engaging for the public,” said Smart Light Sydney Founder and Festival Director Mary-Anne Kyriakou. Request for submissions include pavement, wall, façade and foyer treatments.
