Live on Broadway
Central Park occupies nearly 6 hectares on the site of the former Carlton and United Brewery on Broadway. It is an urban development project that will be a residential area, with some offices, shops and cafés. Frasers Property owns and manages the project.
Renowned international architects Ateliers Jean Nouvel from France and the United Kingdom's Foster + Partners will design 2 buildings along the Broadway fringe. This is an unparalleled investment and a vote of confidence for the local area.
Kensington Street will be the beating heart of the area, drawing on the best influences of Newtown and Darlinghurst. It will be a vibrant space for bars, cafes, shops and galleries. The first building block for the local creative community has been put in place with the FraserStudios gallery setting up shop.
Frasers supports affordable housing with a $32 million contribution to the Redfern Waterloo Authority.
Central Park's concept plan was approved by the NSW Minister for Planning in 2007. The plan included new parks, community facilities and improvements to city infrastructure. Frasers also purchased the site from the Foster's group in 2007.
The $2 billion project is striving for a high environmental rating. Part of this mission is the on-site trigeneration system for power, heating and cooling. It will be the largest urban development in Australia to include this system. Rainwater will be captured and re-used for non-drinking purposes.
Green rooftops and solar powered public spaces also contribute to the site's sustainable effort.
Frasers is working to develop a large public park on the northern fringe of O'Connor Street, approximately 6,500 square metres is size. The site will also be home to some smaller pocket parks. In fact, publicly accessible open space will amount to 36,000 square metres. The main park will be handed over to the City once building is complete. The open spaces will be adorned with public artwork, extensive landscaping, lighting and seating.
A main walking and cycling path will run through the centre of the park connecting Balfour Street across to Broadway and joining Jones Street with UTS. Residents can enjoy an on-site car share program and cycling paths that connect to the Sydney Cycleways network.
Building heights are greatest closest to central Sydney and lowest towards Chippendale. This ensures more sunlight comes through to the main park.
