Expressions of interest

We are seeking applications from organisations and individuals interested in hosting their own event as part of the 2018 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival's associated events program.

To be eligible to apply, associated events must celebrate the Lunar New Year, or celebrate cultures that observe the Lunar New Year or the Year of the Dog.

Celebrations for the Year of the Dog will take place over 17 days from 16 February to 4 March 2018. The festival will feature signature events including the Dragon Boat Races, community performance program and the Lunar Lanterns, an outdoor exhibition of magnificent giant artworks representing the lunar zodiac.

With an audience in excess of 1.3 million people in 2017, the Chinese New Year associated events program is an opportunity for you to be part of the largest celebration of the Lunar New Year outside mainland China.

Associated events benefits 

  • Inclusion in a festival with national and international stature.
  • Event listing in the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival print program.
  • Sydney Chinese New Year Festival event listing on the What's On website linked to your website.
  • Copies of the festival print program for distribution to your members, networks and audiences. 
  • CNY18 logo to use on your marketing collateral promoting your event.
  • Inclusion in other marketing materials and/or channels where relevant.

Please note:

  • Submitting an associated event application does not guarantee inclusion in the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival program.
  • Event acceptance into the Chinese New Year associated events program is at the City of Sydney's discretion.
  • Associated events are not funded by the City.
  • Applications received after the closing date will only be considered for website event listing.
  • Associated event organisers must accept the terms and conditions.

How to apply

Applications close at 11.59pm (AEDT) Sunday 26 November 2017.

Step 1

Complete and submit the online application which includes your event details (event name and proposed date/s). 

Step 2

Complete your CNY18 What's On listing for your associated event by 11.59pm (AEDT) Sunday 26 November 2017. Ensure your event is tagged CNY.

Step 3

You will be asked to complete the following:

  • Review and approve your print program copy and listing.
  • Confirm receipt of the CNY18 associated event logos and style guide for use on your marketing collateral.
  • Supply a copy of your public liability insurance certificate of currency by 2 February 2018.
