Welcome to the Juanita Nielsen Community gym, a friendly space to help you reach your health and fitness goals.

We offer an affordable and fully equipped community gym for residents, workers and visitors of the local area. Memberships and casual visits are offered upon joining via our digital pre-exercise health form. Memberships include access to the air-conditioned gym, change rooms with showers and a range of group exercise classes for various levels of fitness in the community hall, see the timetable below. 

The gym has introduced new state of the art equipment including:

Photo ID is required and current concession cards including seniors cards, for concession rates to be applied. 

Payments: From Monday 26 September 2016, the centre became cashless. EFTPOS and all credit cards are accepted, except American Express. Payments can be made at the centre or over the phone.

Class descriptions

We offer a variety of classes for varying levels of fitness. This is to ensure your safety, and also yours and the groups' satisfaction in classes. Instructors can offer slight variations in some exercises, though if the overall class is too easy, choose a higher level class 2 or 3, or if a class is too hard, choose a lower level 1 class. All classes are not for everyone!

Definition of levels 

Level 1: Beginner, newbie to gym and exercising. Participant has a low level of cardiovascular and strength endurance. Little experience in using gym equipment, exercise or elevating heart rate. For example, limited exercise experience.

Level 2: Intermediate, familiar with gym environment. Participant is experienced in moderate amount of cardio and strength endurance. For example, can run approximately 4km without stopping or perform 20 minutes of similar cardio without stopping. Can complete complex strength exercises without assistance.

Level 3: Advanced, experienced gym user. Participant has a high level of fitness. For example, can run 8km or 40 minutes without stopping. Can perform compound lifts (squat, deadlift, pull, press) without assistance. 

Free flow yoga

1 hour duration

Level 2 

A Vinyasa flow yoga that is fluid and faster paced. This class offers energetic flow and creative sequencing designed to inspire both mentally and physically.

Boxing

1 hour duration

Level 3

Non-contact class where you will learn the correct techniques of boxing. This full-body workout develops your fitness, strength, agility and coordination. Class content will consist of pad-work plus a strength and conditioning circuit to get you fighting fit!

Pilates

1 hour duration

Level 2

A mat and floor based class that focuses on correcting the body’s alignment, posture, core strength and stability.

Yoga and stretch

1 hour duration

Level 1

A slower paced Hatha yoga class. Designed to lengthen and strengthen your whole body. This class will help you develop a strong foundation to build your yoga skills.

FF 30 & FF 45 

30/45 minute duration

Level 3

A foundation class for functional movement. Innovative and dynamic class that will develop overall body strength. It will tone, condition and reduce body composition.   

Functional fitness

1 hour duration

Level 3

This class will develop overall body strength and cardio fitness. It will make you sweat and burn fat.

Fitness for all

45 minute duration

Level 1

Suitable for all ages: mature adults, post-natal mothers, those returning from injuries and illness. This class combines light resistance training, floor work and aerobic moves. Focus is on strengthening the core, improving cardiovascular system and increasing functionality to everyday movement.

Power circuit

45 minute duration

Level 3

High intensity class aimed at maximising strength and power while minimising training time. This class will improve both your strength and cardio endurance.

JT yoga 

60 minute duration

Level 2

'Japanese therapy yoga' corrects functional and structural problems in the body. It works on the meridian system (energetic pathways) to tone, strengthen, sedate or release the affected area or function. Strong emphasis on stress release and back care.

No booking fee and no locked in contracts!

Membership includes access to all gym equipment and fitness classes.

On joining, your membership provides for a complementary fitness assessment and a one-on-one personal training program developed by one of our trainers.

We ask that you complete our pre-exercise health form when you join so we can make sure you're reaching your fitness goals safely. Please note, if you answer yes to any of the medical questions, you will be required to obtain and submit a doctor's certificate, prior to exercising.

Our staff

Our trainers are qualified, friendly and helpful. Whatever your fitness goal, our staff can help you get results. They are always on hand to encourage, help and advise you to make sure you're getting the most out of your workouts.

Please note, as a small community gym, personal trainers are prohibited from bringing clients or coach members to JNCC gym to generate income.

Outreach program

The gym outreach program works in partnership with clients engaged with local organisations.

Outreach clients require a referral from their case worker or organisation. Clients will receive 20 visits to train at our state-of-the-art gym from 6am to 11am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 9am to 11am on Tuesday and Thursday.

We welcome partnerships with new organisations.
