At Ultimo Community Centre

Ultimo Community Centre offers services for locals and visitors of all ages.

Kids can take part in an exciting array of after school and school holiday programs, while younger children can be cared for by our professional and experienced team.

Older residents can also enjoy many programs as part of the City’s services.

Ultimo Library is also on the same site, with a great selection of books, DVDs and magazines to enjoy and borrow.

Children's programs

Child care

Our centre hosts 2 independent child care centres.

Kindy Patch 1 is located on level 1. Its opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 6am to 10pm. For more information about fees and availability for your child, please contact 02 9777 9117.

Kindy Patch 2 is located on level 2. Its opening hours are Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm. For more information about fees and availability for your child, please contact 02 9660 6166.

After-school and vacation care

Our children's program, for kids aged 5 to 12 years, is run at the Ultimo Community Centre.

Kids' tennis

Our kids' tennis program runs on Sunday mornings from 10am to 1pm. For more information, please contact Alison Scott directly on 0418 200 548.

Kids' soccer

Our kids' soccer program runs on Sunday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. To find out more, please contact Neil Mallard on 0404 161 269.

Class descriptions

Art group 

Learn to create your own masterpieces during this 2 hour class.

Ceramic sculpture and painting

Participants are encouraged to explore, create and express themselves through hand-on demonstrations and modern Chinese painting techniques.  

English friendship club

It’s sometimes difficult to meet new friends when English is your second language. This club is designed for those wanting to meet people so they can practice their English.  

Evergreen performing arts 

Social dance group with a mix of Chinese traditional and contemporary moves.

Folk dancing

A great class to learn traditional routines from around the world. All levels welcome. 

Fusion culture group

Bilingual conversational class and cultural education for newly arrived migrants. 

Happy Chinese opera group

Traditional Cantonese singing taught in a small group environment. 

Knitting

All levels of skills are welcome. Get those needles clicking!

New Enterprise Incentive Scheme

Available for job seekers interested in starting and running a small business. NEIS provides job seekers with accredited small business training, business mentoring and income support to help people turn an idea into a viable business. 

Rhymetime  

Specifically designed for 0 to 2 year olds, this is a fun class incorporating lots of colour and movement. 

Storytime (English and Mandarin)   

Designed for 3 to 5 year old, this is a bi-lingual class that will help develop young minds.  

 

Community groups

The centre currently has several community groups which regularly run programs and services at the centre. These groups are non-for-profit and independently run with the support of the City through various grants and sponsorships.

The groups provide the community with a range of services and activities, and are open to anyone. Most activities are free, however some may charge a small fee to cover costs.

  • Friends of Ultimo Group

Additionally, Ultimo Community Centre encourages community groups to use the centre to run their services or programs and can help to put your group in the right direction to receive sponsorships and grants from the City of Sydney.

Libraries

There are 2 libraries located within our centre. The City's Ultimo library branch is located on level 1.

The Jessie Street National Women's Library is on our ground floor. It is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm.

Older adults

The City's services and programs for older adults are held at our centre each weekday from 10am to 4pm.

 

To use the services and facilities at the centre, City residents must become a member. It costs a small fee that is reviewed each year.
