In the heart of town

Library Express is located in Town Hall House, directly behind the Sydney Town Hall. It has free wireless internet, selected paperbacks, magazines and newspapers for browsing. It is not a staffed library branch.

The branch provides a convenient way for members to collect and return items they borrow from the collection of 500,000 items we hold in our library branches.

Request a book

Existing members can search our catalogue for books they want to borrow. Member can reserve the item and select for it to be transferred to Town Hall Library Express.

To become a member, complete an online application or fill in a form when you next visit a staffed branch. It is free to join if you are a NSW resident.

Opening hours

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm
  • Closed weekends and public holidays.

Items can be collected and returned at Library Express. It also provides:

  • free wireless internet
  • table and bench spaces equipped with power outlets
  • public access computer
  • library catalogue access
  • daily newspapers and selected magazines
  • library assistance telephone to speak to a staff member
  • casual reading lounge and adjacent cafe.

Renewals

Renewals are available online (with your library card number) or you can send an email to library@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au. You can also telephone or drop in to one of the staffed branches.
