Art & About launch (16 images)
The City of Sydney's public visual arts festival Art & About was launched on Friday 6 October 2006 at Customs House, with a large crowd of people turning out to view the premiere of the Face of Sydney night time projections, announcement of the Sydney Life Photography Prize and interact with the sculptures and installations.
The Face of Sydney is a ground breaking photographic project which merges the faces of more than 1400 Sydneysiders into one male and female Face of Sydney. The 20 metre tall images were projected onto the AMP Building at Circular Quay during the launch and will be staged every night from 6 October to 15 October, between 6.30pm and 11.30pm.
A photograph of Mina and Phan enjoying the delights of karaoke singing in a suburban Sydney home by Joanne Saad won the fifth annual Sydney Life Photography Prize worth $10,000. Twenty-six finalist images depicting the people, landscapes and quirks of Sydney life have been enlarged to bed sheet size and are on exhibition along the beautiful grand central walkway of Hyde Park North until October 22.
The fascinating sculptures and installations from some of the city’s best young artists will be on display at Customs House Square and AMP forecourt until October 15.
