Residents of Sydney were treated to a grand celebration as Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP opened the redeveloped Glebe Foreshore on Saturday 11 September 2006.

The City of Sydney redevelopment realises a long held dream of the Glebe and wider Sydney community for a continuous foreshore promenade around the Glebe Peninsula.  The vision, persistence and commitment of many local residents ensured the delivery of the magnificent park and foreshore area.

In what is perhaps the most significant stage of the City of Sydney’s $15.1 million redevelopment, the foreshore is now linked from Bicentennial Park to Cook Street in Blackwattle Bay with walkways and boardwalks.  The final stages of the foreshore redevelopment (works underway now) will see the pathways extend around the world famous Sydney Fish Markets.

The official opening on 11 September was a celebration of the natural environment.  The whole family were entertained throughout the day and two lucky residents walked away with bicycles drawn by Cr Robyn Kemmis, which they can now use on the new dual-purpose cycle and pedestrian pathways around the foreshore.  Visitors were also treated to a free BBQ and a jazz band.

The event culminated with the Lord Mayor unveiling the official plaque which will be placed on the walkway to mark the historic opening.
