Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre (13 images)

On Saturday, 17 March 2007, City of Sydney Councillors and staff led residents through the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre in Ultimo, due for completion in May 2007.

People from all corners of the City attended to see progress on the $40 million pool which will provide swimming and recreation to the wider community.

When complete, the Aquatic Centre will include a 50m pool, leisure pool, program pool, a fitness centre and other related services.

The distinctive wave-form building has taken shape in the heart of Ultimo over the past 18 months and is architect Harry Seidler's last public building.

The Centre will be a fitting venue for athletes and casual swimmers.  It honours retired champion Ian Thorpe, who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian community, both in and out of the pool.

The Centre will open in late May or June.  Check the City of Sydney and What's On websites or call the City on 02 9265 9333 for a firm date soon.
