Redfern Pocket Parks (16 images)

As part of the City of Sydney’s vision to green the city, the $700,000 upgrade of James Street Reserve, Marriott Street Reserve and Hansom Cab Place in Redfern were celebrated with an Open Day on Saturday, 17 February 2007.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP was on hand to officially open each of the three parks with the ceremonial unveiling of cast bronze plaques.

Residents took advantage of the three hour party that wound its way through the streets of East Redfern and included a town crier, free ice-creams, homemade lemonade and family barbecue.

Residents were also able to tour a Hansom Cab that transported the residents of Sydney more than 100 years ago. Redfern’s new-look pocket parks provide safe, clean, open space for children’s play and general recreation.
