The City of Sydney is one of 43 local government areas within the Sydney metropolitan area. People from all over the world have made their home in the more than 400 suburbs that make up Sydney, resulting in one of the world's most multicultural cities.

As the oldest municipal council in New South Wales, the City of Sydney has governed the central city area and contributed to the creation of infrastructure within Sydney.
