Dogs

Exercise, education and safety

All dogs, whatever the breed and wherever they live, have the same fundamental needs – food, exercise, attention, grooming and health care. They also need training to learn basic commands and understand what you require of them.

Likewise, owners should learn a bit about how dogs behave and children in particular should be taught how to stay safe around dogs.

Dog parks (off-leash areas)

In high-density, inner-city areas, public spaces to walk or run with your dog off-leash are very important. Off-leash exercise helps dogs relieve boredom and release pent-up energy. Regular off-leash exercise may also reduce unwanted behaviour such as excessive barking. Parks where dogs can play together also bring people together.

We clearly signpost off-leash areas (on the map below) and provide dog litter bags so owners can clean up after their pets.
