Pre-register for the City of Sydney’s secure online system and you can view details of your account and pay by direct electronic transfer or credit card.

If you have already registered, log in now.

If you haven't already, you can register now.

Set up a direct debit

Direct debit is the easiest way to pay your rates – it happens automatically. It’s likely to save you money on transaction fees and charges, too. By registering you’ll authorise the City of Sydney to debit your bank account when your annual payment or quarterly instalments are due.

If you opt to use our pay-by-phone service (below) instead, your account is debited as you make the call.

To register, download and complete the direct debit request form (below) and return it to Council by mail, fax or in person. If you don’t have a printer, call 02 9265 9333 and we’ll send you a form.

Follow the phone prompts

To use this service, just call 1300 360 062 any time and follow the easy, step-by-step instructions.

When prompted, enter all seven digits of your assessment number. Don’t include the dashes. For example, enter assessment number 012345-6 as 0123456.

You can pay using Visa or MasterCard or your cheque or savings account (if you’re a registered direct debit customer. See above).

Pop a cheque in the mail

Post a cheque or money order (made out to the City of Sydney), together with the bottom portion of your notice, to:

City of Sydney
GPO Box 5112
Sydney NSW 2001

Please note, we don’t issue receipts for payments sent by post.

Use BPAY

BPAY payments can be made over the phone or the Internet using your cheque/savings account or credit card (have the details handy). Our biller code is 7500; your BPAY reference number is on your rate notice.

Pay in person

You can pay your rates in person at one of our service centres, any Westpac branch, or any post office.

Our Neighbourhood Service Centres are located in Central Sydney, Redfern, Glebe, Green Square and Kings Cross. Present your rate notice and pay by cash, cheque, money order, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express).

If paying at a Westpac branch, the bank teller will stamp the top portion of your notice and hand it back to you as your receipt. You don’t need to have a Westpac bank account.

You can pay at an Australia Post outlet with cash, cheque, MasterCard, Visa or EFTPOS. The teller will scan the barcode, retain the deposit slip, stamp the document and return it to you as a receipt. You can also use Australia Post’s Postbillpay service at any time of the day or night.

Have your account details (cheque or savings) or credit card (Visa or MasterCard) handy when you call Postbillpay on 13 18 16. You’ll need your rate notice and a pen (to write down your receipt number) too. Your Postbillpay reference number is located on the top right portion of your rate notice.

Rates overpayment

If you have overpaid your rate amount, you can request a refund from the City. Please complete the form at the end of this page and return it to the City.

Only the ratepayer who made the overpayment may apply for a refund.
