What's On

The Picnic, The Party, The Point

Sydney New Year’s Eve is presented by the City of Sydney, sponsors and government partners. As a thankyou for their financial and operational contribution associated events are held for their families, employees and guests.

The Lord Mayor’s Picnic

Each Sydney New Year's Eve the Lord Mayor invites 2000 children with specific needs and their carers from over 50 charities, hospital groups and organisations in and around Sydney to attend a very special picnic in the Royal Botanic Gardens.  The theme of this year’s picnic is ‘Once Upon a Time’.

For many families the Picnic is the highlight of the year. For many parents it is an opportunity to relax in a safe and beautiful environment, free of life’s everyday worries and watch their children enjoy the celebrations. And best of all everything is FREE!

From the moment the guests arrive there is plenty to do. Greeted by roving performers and fairtale characters, children are entertained by performance groups, bands and many activities for them to enjoy.

The event climaxes with a lantern procession from the gardens down to the Harbour foreshore for a fantastic view of the 9pm Family Fireworks.

The Lord Mayor’s Party

Located at the Northern Broadwalk of the Sydney Opera House, the Lord Mayor’s Party commences at 8pm. Hosted by Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP, the Party embraces the New Year’s Eve theme and presents a night of entertainment included in the national broadcast by media partner Network Ten. For 2007 there is everything from circus performers to newcomers on the Australian music scene.

VIP Viewing Area @ Dawes Point

The City of Sydney through its sponsorship with the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority creates a VIP Viewing Area at Dawes Point. Around 1500 guests are invited to attend, including sponsors, government partners, local residents, and winners of promotions run via our Media Partners, Network Ten, The Sydney Morning Herald and 104.1 2Day FM.

The area opens at 8pm and has seating, licensed catering, entertainment and a great view of the Harbour.
