Celebrating Reconciliation Week, this exhibition features photographs taken at Redfern Community Centre on National Apology Day, 13 February 2008. The young photographers, aged between 5 and 22, successfully captured the range of emotions expressed on the day when Prime Minister Rudd said sorry to the stolen generations of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This is an exhibition you should not miss. Pine Street Creative Arts Centre and Redfern Community Centre were the originating collaborators on this Exhibiton. Over 70 artworks made by children aged 5 – 12 years old, Why I Love Nature is an art exhibition by children, for children. Why I Love Nature coincided with World Environment Day earlier this year, and was a nationwide art competition to encourage environmental awareness, with the aim of educating children and their families to integrate sustainable actions in their everyday lives. The artworks include mosaics, sculptures, mobiles, and a big model of a sustainable town made from reuse materials. World Environment Day is not just about recognizing our ‘green environment’ but also about encouraging people to ‘think and do green’. Essentially its an “open day” for visitors to interact with the Chippendale community through guided tours, open studios, product sampling, events, parties, performances and other cultural activities. It aims to raise awareness of the creative goods and services available in Chippendale and to showcase Chippendale's unique culture and people. Queen Street Studios are taking members of the public on chaperoned tours on an “open day”, where visitors will be able to interact with the Chippendale community through guided tours, open studios, product sampling, events, parties, performances and other cultural activities. As part of the tour, visitors will come to Pine Street to explore and enjoy our ST2K Street Art Festival, which promises to be one of the events of the year!
