With the aim of creating awareness about abandoned, surrendered and neglected dogs, the My Human Family community photographic project invites our rescued four legged friends and their humans to submit family photos and share their personal stories.

A selection of photos will be chosen by a panel of judges, and exhibited at Pine Street’s community gallery. The exhibition images and stories will also feature in a catalogue and a series of postcards. An enlargement of the photo, a catalogue and a postcard will be given to each family as a ‘thank you’.

All photos submitted will become part of the online image gallery (see link above).

The launch of My Human Family on Saturday 7 July 2012 will be a fun day out for all dogs and their families. Rescued and non-rescued dogs will have the chance to bring their families out and show them off, pose for a family portrait at the doggy photo booth, sniff old and new friends and create awareness for dogs that need a new home.

Pound-Dog Billy

Billy was an abandoned dog that nearly found a home. Due to an IT glitch, the pound staff didn't see the email that the adoptive family sent the night before he was due to be euthanased. Billy had a new home and family waiting for him, but by the time the email was read, it was too late.

Billy is no longer with us, but many of his canine brothers and sisters need a human family to love and be loved by. Add your doggie’s photo and voice to help others understand the joys of fostering or adopting a homeless dog. Show us the love. Don’t let other dogs die like Billy.

My name was Billy and I
was a good dog too.

Pound Rounds was created by a group of animal lovers who want to help save as many dogs as they can from Blacktown and Hawkesbury Pounds. Volunteers take pictures and videos of the dogs and post them with a description of each dog on their Facebook page for prospective adoptive families to see.

Pound Rounds is in no way affiliated with the pounds, nor do they represent these pounds. Staff at the facilities are familiar with the dogs and advise Pound Rounds of the dogs' temperaments. They also post some observation notes from their own experiences and interactions with the beautiful pound souls.

Monika's Doggie Rescue is a private registered charity that believes in saving and
re-homing as many dogs as they can from the council pounds. For many years Monika Biernacki and a group of volunteers have been rescuing dogs from death row and successfully re-homing them with permanent and loving owners.

Monika's Doggie Rescue has a NO KILL policy so all dogs they get from the pound are
re-housed. They usually place on average three dogs per day and at any one time they have over 200 dogs up for adoption. Over a year they save about 1,000 dogs - nearly 10,000 have been saved since the charity started.

Lawyers for Companion Animals is a private law firm whose aim is to provide pro bono information on issues relating to companion animals and their welfare. They advocate for reform to unjust laws, policies and practices on issues affecting companion animals and engage with those who create or administer laws in Australia in an effort to strengthen legal protection for companion animals.

It is the only law firm in Australia to focus exclusively in the practice of Animal Law for companion animals. They fight for the underdogs, the victims of injustice, the cats and dogs failed by humans and the weak and/or nonexistent regulatory system (that fails to protect many animals).

We are very pleased to announce that Anne Greenaway, Principal of the firm, will be an official speaker at the exhibition launch on Saturday 7 July.
