What is smARTarts all about?
smart ARTS is an annual youth arts & cultural festival showcasing creative talent and initiatives in the City Of Sydney.
smart ARTS is held as part of National Youth Week to showcase youth creative talents in the area of visual arts, performance arts and music. The festival will bring together an eclectic mix of live music, dance & roaming performances, a design-art market, art exhibition, free creative & environmental workshops and our ‘Start the Spark’ artists forum.
smart ARTS is an arts event held for young people by young people, with up 30 volunteers involved in organising the festival. We want YOU to be part of smart ARTS! Dealing with life means young people have few chances to ignite their creative fires. Each year we call out for 15 - 26 year olds wanting to hit the ground running and become volunteer event coordinators and help other young people like yourself.
This is a genuine opportunity to get real hands on experience in coordinating an amazing & fun event for young people. Concerned about not having enough experience? Don’t Worry! There will be mentors & qualified staff to guide & assist you along the way. If you are interested in PR, advertising, events planning & management, stage management, web design, art, music, photography or film, then smart ARTS is for you! |
The aims & objectives of smart ARTS are:
-
To showcase the diverse creative talents of young people in Sydney
-
To provide a forum for young people to express themselves and inspire each other through creative mediums.
-
To provide an opportunity for young creative people to collaborate on artistic projects
-
To celebrate the nature, diversity and vibrancy of 'youth'.
-
To assist young people to form networks & industry contacts in the arts, entertainment, and events industries.
-
To provide a culturally enriching youth festival that engages young people and provides them with creative opportunities & exposure to new artistic pursuits
smart ARTS is a quality youth arts experience, the event aims to provide exposure for young & emerging artists, performers and events coordinators. smart ARTS provides a truly unique festival experience for:
-
Volunteer festival coordinators who learn about events management, administration, sponsorship, funding and staging.
-
Emerging Artists who gain exhibition experience as well as art, design, web design, promotion & marketing skills. They gain valuable exposure through exhibition of artwork, live performances, & workshops. smart ARTS also receives impressive of media coverage, with over 30 newspaper articles and a channel 7 weather cross showcasing smart ARTS talent in 2007.
-
Young people with a great creative idea – this is your chance to get it out there!
Underlying this is a commitment to develop arts practices amongst young people and encourage them to address issues important to young people via these practices in a positive, constructive way. Core to the event are concepts of 'arts & youth, diversity & community'.
Importantly, smart ARTS is not just a one day event:
Planning begins in November/December and continues right up until the event day. Between 30-40 young people work on the event management component of the festival, as well as being involved in different arts programs to produce works specifically for the festival day. Arts programs run in conjunction with the festival will differ each year – these have included workshops in banner production, t -shirt production, stencilling, silver jewellery, giant puppet making, photography, video production, graphic design, printmaking and more!
This group of volunteers forms the smart ARTS Collective, which is at the core of youth involvement at Pine Street Creative Arts Centre. This core group of young people coordinate, promote and implement the development and execution of the festival, making it a dynamic youth event! These young coordinators and creative folk are also responsible for scouting, managing & producing a variety of artworks and performances for the event.
smart ARTS aims to provide a framework for professional development in event and arts management across a variety of practices, making it a unique and diverse youth arts phenomenon.
