Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre
A swimming and fitness centre
A tribute to one of Australia’s most successful athletes, the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre was the last public building designed by the late Harry Seidler.
The facility has a distinctive wave-shaped roof and includes a 50 metre heated pool, a separate pool for more leisurely swimming, spa, steam room, café and fitness centre.
The Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre also features green initiatives such as hydraulically operable roof vents for natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting for internal amenities such as toilets and sprinkler systems, and automated lighting to reduce energy consumption.
