Waranara Early Education Centre

The City is breathing new life into the old outpatients building at the historic South Sydney Hospital site.

Heritage features such as roof cowls will be reinterpreted as skylights, offices will become light-filled playrooms, a new U-shaped building will create safe play spaces while a wrap around veranda will encourage individual or group play protected by large shade trees.

We’ve made sure all the elements essential for early childhood learning are included. An inventive nature play area will offer children a sensory path featuring raised veggie gardens, fruit tree groves and timber balance challenges.

Passive, active and messy play spaces will include an outdoor kitchen and digging patch extending into a lively water and sand play area.

“Waranara” is an Aboriginal word meaning “to seek”.

Staffed by qualified educators who’ll focus on preparing your child for school, the Waranara Early Education Centre will provide 74 places for children aged from 6 weeks to 6 years.

The City has appointed Australia’s largest early learning provider, Goodstart Early Learning, to run the centre which will open in mid-2018.
