Here comes the neighbourhood

Ashmore precinct is one of the City of Sydney’s biggest urban development projects.

Located in Erskineville and on the border of Alexandria, the 17-hectare site will be a new residential neighbourhood with local shops, cafés and a small supermarket.

The site is bounded by Ashmore Street, Mitchell Road, Coulson Street and the Bankstown railway line.

Ashmore will eventually be home to approximately 6000 residents, as development is staged over the next 10 years. The redevelopment will create new streets, some with separated bicycle lanes, a large central park and systems to manage stormwater.

Terraces, apartments, and live-work accommodation will be developed to help meet the housing needs of 21st century living.

The City is committed to working with the community to ensure the future development of the Ashmore precinct is sustainable, respects the character of surrounding suburbs, and is supported by new transport options and services such as child care.

Planning for the site

The planning process for the Ashmore site has evolved over the years with regular consultation with the community and landowners.

Most recently we have worked on an update to the planning controls and, as part of this process, studies were undertaken on traffic and transport, social sustainability and urban design.
