Small parks and playgrounds
The small parks and playgrounds renewal program is designed to improve the quality of our public parks and places designated for play.
Our aim is to ensure residents have access to a quality play facility within 500 metres and that these playgrounds provide a diverse range of play opportunities for children and carers.
We are allocating funding each year to renewing these areas. There are more than 330 small parks and playgrounds throughout the local area. Each year a number of parks from different suburbs are selected for renewal.
Janet Bierne Reserve
The planned upgrade for the reserve will include:
- A new playground
- Better public facilities
- General landscape improvements.
Jubilee Park Playground
Design concepts were put on display in April 2011. Feedback received helped to form the design plan.
The Environment and Heritage Committee discussed the plans, allowing the public the chance to share their point of view.
A report forwarded to Council in 2011 was endorsed, allowing work to begin.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2013.
Chelsea Street Playground
The playground’s upgrade will include:
- New play equipment
- Improved public facilities
A report carried out in 2011 found that the park’s playground equipment was in need of an upgrade. The park’s refresh will include a new playground, better public facilities and landscaping improvements. The City is reviewing public feedback and these comments will help to form the design plans.
