Abercrombie Street
Darlington’s main street
Abercrombie Street is the main street of Darlington Village and runs between Broadway and Golden Grove Street in Darlington.
The active centre of Darlington village, supports cafes, a small retail strip, small businesses, homes and a local park. It is a major walking route between Redfern Station and the University of Sydney.
A preliminary plan was prepared to help determine how Abercrombie Street could be improved.
The upgrade will help to:
- Address pedestrian and safety issues
- Improve the street design and reduce clutter
- Have more trees planted.
Community consultation
In response to community feedback, the project has been expanded to include works at Ivy Street and on the northern side of Abercrombie Street between Ivy Lane and Shepherd Street.
The expanded concept design includes:
- Reducing the clutter of overhead wires
- Widening the footpath with new brick paving
- Installing new lighting.
