Coulson Street pedestrian link

Linking with Sydney Park Road in Erskineville

A pedestrian link is planned between Coulson Street and Sydney Park Road in Erskineville. This link is about making it easier for residents to access open space and parklands.

The proposed pedestrian link is an area bounded by high density apartment buildings. We propose to use this narrow strip of City land to extend an existing footpath and connect Coulson Street to Sydney Park Road. The pedestrian link will make it easier to access Sydney Park and St Peters station from Coulson Street.

A feasibility study has also been carried out regarding a potential crossing across Sydney Park Road, which would benefit residents from the nearby Ashmore precinct.

The developed design

Arising from development consent conditions, monetary contributions from the Sydney Park Village and Zenix Apartment developers have been dedicated to develop this site as a link.

Key components of the design are:

  • A safe and accessible path and ramp including lighting to allow for night-time use
  • Stair access
  • Upgrade existing ramp to meet current accessibility guidelines
  • Create an open lawn area with new seating, grass and landscaping for people to enjoy
  • Plant screening along sections of the adjacent apartment buildings

Community feedback

The concept design plan was on public exhibition in October 2011.

The developed design has been recently completed and consultation is taking place with key stakeholders and the community. This plan is available to download below.

The City’s contractor will start work in April, and carry out the works between 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and when required 7.30am to 3.30pm Saturday. All up, work is expected to take approximately 17 weeks, weather permitting.
