Pitt Street
Improvements to Pitt Street
After the success of the Castlereagh Street improvements in late 2012 and as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintain and improve our streets, both sides of Pitt Street are being enhanced. Improvements will be focused on the area north of Martin Place, all the way to Circular Quay.
Footpaths will be upgraded with granite pavers to make them safer and more appealing. We will also install kerb ramps and foundations for new Smartpoles. The community has been notified via letter and the City’s community liaison officer, Phillip Britten.
We will install Smartpoles at a later stage, which will provide high-quality street lighting and reduce clutter. Smartpoles combine parking signs, traffic signals, street lighting and street signs on one pole and also allow for hanging baskets or street banners.
City contractors will carry out the works generally between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday with some Sunday works when negotiated directly with stakeholders.
The contractors will establish a worksite along various sections of Pitt Street, which will include safety fences, barricades, signs and shade cloth.
The bulk of the works will be completed in the first half of 2013.
