Draft urban forest strategy and revised tree management policy

The City plans to make Sydney a greener and healthier place to live and work under the draft Urban Forest Strategy and revised Tree Management Policy.

There are about 81,000 trees in the City of Sydney Local Government Area. The trees currently provide canopy cover of about 15 per cent. Our goal is to grow our green canopy by 50 per cent by 2030. A larger tree canopy means cooler streets, better air quality and more attractive streetscapes.

The City proposes a number of strategies and actions to protect and improve the health of our existing trees, increase canopy cover and improve forest diversity as well as increasing community knowledge and involvement.
