Footway usage approvals fees

Please Note: the exhibition period for this item has now closed.

The City is seeking feedback from the community on new fees for Footway Usage Approvals- Fees for use of footway areas.

The City is committed to encouraging well-managed, outdoor dining that improves residential amenity, particularly in our villages where there is less demand for footway use.

To encourage the growth of outdoor dining in Sydney, the City is proposing that a new fee will apply to all non-CBD footway usage licences and approvals (Zone 1A, 2,3 ,4, 5, 6, 6A) and CBD laneways (Zone 7), these new fees will effectively reduce the existing fees by half.

This initiative is proposed for an 18 month period, from 1 January 2013 to 30 June 2014. During this period, the City can measure the success of the incentive, investigate a reasonable market licencing fee that might be applied to all non-CBD zones (Zone 1A, 2, 3 ,4, 5, 6, 6A) and CBD laneways (Zone 7) only.

The Outdoor Café Policy sets out guidelines to seeking a Footway Usage approval for outdoor dining associated with a restaurant or café. Once issued with a footway usage approval and display notice a café is able to enjoy outdoor dining adjacent to their restaurant or café.
