Energy
We have an ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% and for the city to have capacity to meet up to 100% of electricity demand by local electricity generation by 2030.
At the moment 80% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions come from the production of electricity, primarily by coal-fired power stations. Two thirds of the energy being used by these stations is wasted as heat from cooling towers and on long-distance transmission and distribution over power lines to Sydney. The City’s goal is to produce 70% of its electricity needs from trigeneration and 30% from renewable energy.
Trigeneration
An environmentally sustainable method of generating electricity.
Renewable energy
We’re challenging traditional electricity supplies from coal-fired power stations with sustainable and innovative technologies.
LED lighting project
The first venture of its kind in Australia, new energy-efficient LED lights are being installed in public places across the local area.
