No - Garden organics can’t go in your recycling bin. But City of Sydney residents can order a garden organics bin to dispose of grass clippings, plants and branches.
Can window envelopes go in the recycling bin?
Yes - You don’t even have to remove the little plastic window. The paper recycling process removes it before the pulp is made into new products.
Can cartons go in your recycling bin?
Yes - Milk and juice cartons are made of cardboard with fine layers of film. Pop them in your recycling bin and they can be recycled as paper.
Can biscuit packaging go in your recycling bin?
Yes - Not many people realise that biscuit packaging is made from light, low grade plastic, and can’t go in your recycling bin
Can energy-saving light globes go in your recycling bin?
Energy-saving light globes can’t go in the recycling bin – they need to be specially processed. But NSW residents can drop them off at free chemical cleanout days!
Can take away coffee cups go in your recycling bin?
Trick question! The 6 symbol doesn't mean it’s recyclable – it’s the type of plastic the polystyrene cup is made from. But! You can still recycle the plastic lid.
Can plastic bags go in your recycling bin?
Plastic bags can’t be recycled because they jam the machinery used in the recycling process.
